A happy home is one that is personalised to suityour needs and tastes. But it also requires a series of basic and essentialelements: it must be bright, spaciousand filled with a sense of calm

Then it’s up to you to add your own personal touch.   Below you’ll find our tips on how to transform your house into a happy home.

1. It must be spacious – or at least look and feel that way.

A sense of spaciousness is an essential element in any home. Ideally it should be large, but if you’re living in a reduced space (something that often occurs), then make sure you don’t overfill the rooms with objects. We’re not talking strict minimalism; the idea is more to find the right balance between the things we need and those we don’t.

-What to avoid: Useless or pointless objects. Shelves cluttered with ‘stuff’ and over-decorated walls. Colours that are excessively bold or clash. We should also try not to include furniture that breaks up the space (ideally everything should be instantly visible). The central area of the room should be clear, whilst the furniture and other items should be used to create circular passageways that make it easy to move around.

2. But first, let there be light.

We should take every opportunity to make the most of natural light. There is nothing better than light from outside.  If you are interested in tips on light, then check out this post on our blog where we discuss this topic in detail.

As for artificial light, it should be indirect and ‘yellow’. Why? Because once evening falls, our light should be less intense and more relaxing, ensuring a calm and tranquil end to the day.

-Our tip: use spotlights, direct the light towards corners (both on the ceiling and the floor) and you’ll see what a difference it makes.

3. Technology is out of bounds

There is no need to be online 24 hours a day. Turning the place we inhabit into a happy home means creating technology-free spaces, which is often harder than it may seem.

Imagine a corner that is all our own, where we can unwind with a good book; a personal space where you relax and chat with friends over a coffee, or simply listen to your favourite sounds.

  • Our tip: Technology that helps us to relax – such as sound systems or temperature controllers – will always be welcome. But forget about the rest. Switch off for a while and just enjoy yourself.

4. Plants and more plants.

Plants purify the air, help to lower your stress levels and muffle noise. They allow us to breathe more easily and reduce static electricity. They also add a touch of natural elegance to the home. For all these reasons, plants are essential in reaching a state of happiness in the home.

The trick lies in mixing and matching: vases of fresh flowers, dried flowers in pots and natural plants that fill the home with fragrant aromas, creating the sense of calm we long for.

5. Be tidy.

A home where everything is in its proper place is essential. That means decluttering our lives (we honestly do need much less than we imagine). Organising everything in boxes, keeping them out of sight, will lend a sense of peace to your home, and will also save time, enabling you to do the things you really like.

Have a great day!
