BIM: A worldwide tool that is now an official system in Spain

BIM is now a mandatory tool in public works projects

17 December 2018

In this article, we describe a work tool used in the United States, Australia and Europe generally that allows users to track the development of a building project in real time. In Spain, it is an everyday tool which will be mandatory, as from today, in all public works projects.

We are talking about BIM (Building Information Modelling), a collaborative digital work system for all stakeholders involved in a building project (builders, architects, engineers etc.), allowing them to view the project on different scales in real time. In this way, savings on time can be made while also ensuring far better coordination during the building process. Keraben Grupo has brought out an e-book that offers a detailed explanation of the system and its main uses.

Although its use in all building projects funded with public money has only become mandatory in Spain now, it is far from a new phenomenon. In countries like the United States or the UK, it has been commonplace for decades.

What about Keraben Grupo? Right from the outset, the company set its sights on attracting clients from the contract market and its different collections are now featured in the BIMObject library. Thanks to a collaborative initiative between BIMObject and Autodesk, the products can easily be integrated in projects by prestigious top architects’ studios worldwide. BIM users can find many collections by the company in the digital library, such as Brancato, Mixit, Savia, Evolution, Uptown, Elven, Future, Evoque and Zebra.

New products by the group are also added to BIMObject, such as Boreal, Chic and Romance, presented at recent trade fairs. The library is constantly being updated so as to offer clients an unbeatable selection of wall and floor tiles which can be tested out in their project designs to see what they look like. Visualizing some completed projects can be a great source of inspiration in the development of future ones and BIM seems all set to continue growing in popularity.

25 years ago, Patrick McLeammy, one of the driving forces behind the development of BIM, foresaw a revolution in the building industry. Since then, the collaborative work system that he helped to develop has become an increasingly widespread phenomenon. Its growth is unstoppable and today BIMobject is used as a technological platform by over 1,250 leading brand names worldwide. It has offered a smart response to the sector’s needs, acting as far more than a file repository by becoming an integral part of companies’ digital strategies. Large numbers of professionals are very thankful to be able to count on BIMobject in their day-to-day work.
